Subject: Important Regulatory Update: Testing Availability for MGM-15, MGM-16, and Mitragynine Pseudoindoxyl
—
1. The Federal Regulatory Status (Clarification)
-
July 6, 2026 (Notice of Intent): The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) published a formal Notice of Intent (Docket No. DEA-1570) proposing the temporary placement of these synthetic and semi-synthetic derivatives into federal Schedule I.
-
July 31, 2026 (Comment Window Close): July 31 was the administrative closing date for the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) public comment period on the docket. It was an administrative comment deadline, not an enforcement date or final ban.
- On August 26, 2026, the Federal Register published a temporary order from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) placing mitragynine pseudoindoxyl (MGPI), MGM-15, and MGM-16 into Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. [1]
-
Current Federal Status: As of today, the DEA Administrator has not published a final Temporary Scheduling Order in the Federal Register for 7OH.
TESTING STATUS: Explicit federal Schedule I placement has taken effect for MGM-15, MGM-16, and Pseudoindoxyl on August 27, 2026, analytical laboratory testing for these analytes is no longer authorized under federal law. Wonderland-Labs is no longer accepting and providing quantitative testing for MGM-15, MGM-16, or Mitragynine Pseudoindoxyl.
2. Scope and Enforcement Discretion
- Trace Amounts Policy: The Department of Justice (DOJ) noted it will exercise enforcement discretion regarding incidental, non-intentional trace amounts of MGPI found naturally inside traditional botanical kratom products. However, this discretion does not apply to MGM-15, MGM-16, or any intentionally fortified formulations.

3. Important State-Level Exception: Florida Emergency Regulations
While federal scheduling remains pending, state-level regulations operate independently.
Clients manufacturing, distributing, or shipping samples within or through Florida must take note of active emergency actions:
-
Florida Emergency Rules: The Florida Attorney General and state health officials have issued emergency rules designating highly concentrated 7-OH, MGM-15, Mitragynine Pseudoindoxyl, and related semi-synthetic alkaloid derivatives as Schedule I controlled substances under Florida state law.
-
State Compliance & Transport: While our analytical testing facilities remain federally authorized, clients in Florida—or those transporting samples through Florida—must ensure compliance with state-level controlled substance laws and FDACS food safety concentration limits.

How We Are Handling Sample Submissions
-
Active Testing: Wonderland-Labs will no longer provide full quantitative testing and COAs for MGM-15, MGM-16, and Mitragynine Pseudoindoxyl. Since we built reference standards before the materials were made illegal, we can still verify presence or absence of these alkaloids.
-
State Compliance Verification: We strongly encourage all clients to review local state laws (specifically in Florida and other emergency-rule jurisdictions) before submitting samples or distributing products containing these compounds.
-
Daily Monitoring: We monitor the Federal Register Public Inspection queue daily. If the DEA formally publishes a final federal Temporary Scheduling Order, we will notify you immediately regarding any necessary adjustments to sample acceptance policies.
BOTTOM LINE: LEGAL STATUS HAS CHANGED ON A FEDERAL LEVEL IN RELATION TO MGM-15, MGM-16, AND MITRAGYNINE PSEUDOINDOXYL AS OF AUGUST 26, 2026.
